As a doula, Breann...
· Recognizes birth as a key life experience that the mother will remember all her life...
· Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor...
· Has the personal, educational, and professional experience necessary to guide the mother and partner through this life changing process…
· Assists the woman and her partner in preparing for and carrying out their plans for the birth...
· Stays by the side of the laboring woman throughout the entire labor...
· Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures, an objective viewpoint, and assistance to the woman in getting the information she needs to make good decisions...
· Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner, and clinical care providers...
· Perceives her role as one who nurtures and protects the woman's memory of her birth experience…
· Prepares the woman and her partner for the transition of parenthood...
· Makes dietary recommendations based on the woman’s physical structure and the needs of her growing child…
· Meets with the mother at least monthly before, during, and after pregnancy for a vibrational medicine session and to assess the mother’s needs…
· Is available by phone, text, Facebook, or email throughout pregnancy and postpartum for questions and concerns…
· Offers full breastfeeding support.
I recommend all pregnant mothers also have a physician or midwife. I also recommend the use of hospitals, birthing homes, or clinics unless the mother is extremely comfortable with homebirths and has given birth to more than one healthy baby.
